1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 `Daytona`
s/n 15241
Red with Black Leather and Red Carpets
Of the many Ferrari 365 GTB/4 `Daytonas` we have had the privilege to handle recently, this car rates at the very top. Sharp, straight-as-an-arrow bodylines and excellent gaps complement superb performance from the suspension, brakes, transaxle, and `Typo A` power plant. Ready for shows or to drive across the Country in Gumball Rally fashion, this is an absolute excuses free, kick-ass, stud of a car!
Built for the European market this Daytona was factory equipped with A/C, power windows, and the `Typo A` high performance engine. The Euro production Daytonas were fitted with different exhaust manifold which makes approximately 15 more horsepower than the US model cars.
This car has been repainted in beautiful dark red. The repaint was an extremely high point job which included the door jams, trunk and engine bay sills. The finish on the car today has a mirror quality sheen. Today, a repaint done to this caliber could cost well over $25,000! With the exception of one small paint imperfection at the bottom of the passenger`s door, there are no flaws of any significance in the paint. With the exception of some age cracking to the very sought after two-color side marker lenses, all the lenses and window glass is in excellent condition. The stainless window frames are straight, and the frames, bumpers, and rocker sill trim is all in excellent condition with no signs of deterioration or aging. The car sits on beautifully polished Borrani wire wheels with near-new Michelin Radial X tires.
The interior is also exceptional. The seats are like-new, and upholstered in ultra-soft black leather. Likewise, the door skins, console, rear shelf area, and interior rocker panels are all in like-new condition without a single mark throughout. The red carpet (correct wool Ferrari material) is also like new, and beautifully complements the exterior color. The dash has been recently redone in correct `mouse hair` material, and aside from two water rings near the windshield, is perfect. The factory steering wheel has also been refinished and is like new. All the factory switches and gauges remain in place and operational.
The engine bay is fully detailed and is on par with a show car. The inner fender wells have been smoothed and repainted, and the black crackle has been refinished on the heat shields, cam covers, and air cleaner housing, and is beautiful. The trunk is beautiful, in keeping with the balance of the car.
Mechanically, this is a very well sorted example. While all Daytonas are powerful, the engine in this car may have been tastefully modified to produce even more horse power than stock- especially above 5,000 rpm. A slightly larger stainless steel exhaust system has been fitted which amplifies- in a more than tolerable way- that V12 Ferrari exhaust note we all know and love. The transaxle is smooth and crisp in and out of each gate with a fantastic second gear syncro both when warm and cold. After extensive research, Performance Friction carbon brake pads were fitted which actually make it possible to lock all four wheels under heavy braking- typically an impossibility on Daytonas! All gauges are fully operational, and the A/C system blows frigid cold. Currently this car shows 39,496 KMS, and while there are virtually no records accompanying the car, the fresh, tight feel and outstanding cosmetic condition could support this as actual mileage.
With this car comes an original manual with manual the leather holder, one piece spare wheel with tire, the jack and jack bag, emergency triangle, knock-off hammer and lug wrench. There are virtually no records with this car, so we suggest that interested parties have a stringent pre- purchase inspection performed to confirm our findings. Few other Ferraris have enjoyed the dramatic appreciation that Daytonas have over the last two years. This example represents a fantastic opportunity as a fast moving `investment vehicle` in absolutely impeccable cosmetic and mechanical condition in need of absolutely nothing.
